Letter to Subscribers and Prospective Benefactors

DEAR SUBSCRIBERS and PROSPECTIVE BENEFACTORS:

THE WORD OF GOD IS OUR LIFE. It is not only useful for corrections, teachings, exhortations, and for training in righteousness, as St Paul wrote to his young assistant Timothy. In our Eucharistic liturgy, the celebration of the Word brings God in our Lord Jesus Christ alive among us. The celebration of the Word is part of the “memorializing” or “making present” of Jesus in the gathering of the Church. Our blessed founder James Alberione therefore willed that in the apostolate of the Society of St Paul, our priests and brothers should prioritize the spread of the Word of God – especially in the form of biblical and liturgical materials—through all the means of communication that are accessible and available. In the Philippines, the Pauline priests and brothers publish Sambuhay—missalette that features an exegetical-liturgical-pastoral reflection on the Word of God for Sundays and other church holydays. Now, Sambuhay Online also reaches out to those abroad, and to those more at home with the use of the websites and digital media.

ST PAULS CELEBRATES GOD’S BLESSINGS. On July 7, 2010, the Philippine-Macau Province of the Society of St Paul—the publisher of Sambuhay—counts 75 years of community life and mission. Moreover, Sambuhay that was first published on July 5, 1987 is looking forward to celebrating 25 fruitful years of service in the Church.

OUR MOTTO IS: “BLESSING LIVES.” In a concrete way, we are sharing the bounty of the Lord to all of you, valued subscribers. Beginning August 2010, our editorial and marketing policymakers have decided to make Sambuhay Online free… repeat: Sambuhay Online free. We see this a valuable service and ministry to the whole Church that has become our parish.

THE WORK HAS COSTS. Sambuhay and Sambuhay Online are maintained by our editorial staff who edit, copy read, and layout the issues. Also, we have to compensate the contributions of our writers. There are also copyright dues that we have to continuously remit to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) who own the Revised New American Bible, the officially approved text for the liturgical readings. In lieu of your subscription dues, we then appeal for your generous contributions and donations so we can continue to publish Sambuhay and Sambuhay Online as our apostolate and service to the Church. You may donate through our on-line facilities (see Paypal Donation button at the left side of the Sambuhay Online page), or by sending your cheques payable to “Society of St Paul.” Our mailing address is: Society of St Paul, 7708 St Paul Road, San Antonio Village, Makati City, Philippines.

OUR CURRENT SUBSCRIBERS ARE PRIVILEGED. We will acknowledge the payments you have made as our first donations! You are our first partners-in-mission!

Sincerely yours,
Sambuhay Team
