ELEVEN JUNIORS RENEW RELIGIOUS VOWS ON THE SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY

Updated: Jun 8

MAKATI CITY — On the evening of the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, eleven Temporarily Professed members of the Philippines–Australia Province of the Society of St. Paul renewed their religious vows during a Eucharistic celebration presided over by the Provincial Superior, Fr. Mario Sobrejuanite, SSP. Concelebrating with him were the Junior Master, Fr. Khris Emmanuel Llacer, SSP, and the Assistant Junior Master, Fr. Lawrence de Peralta, SSP.

During the Mass, the Juniors renewed their vows of chastity, poverty, obedience, and fidelity to the Pope. The vows were received by Fr. Sobrejuanite, who, in his homily, emphasized the importance of living with purpose, commitment, and fidelity to one’s vocation.

Beginning with the reminder to “slow down and enjoy life,” he noted that moving too quickly can cause people to lose sight of their purpose, direction, and ultimate goal. He observed that contemporary culture often discourages lifelong commitments, favoring temporary choices and constant change. Against this backdrop, he described the renewal of religious vows as a powerful witness and a truly countercultural act. Those who embrace religious life, he said, are called to be “extraordinary” through their steadfast fidelity to God’s call.

Quoting Fr. James Alberione, Fr. Sobrejuanite also stressed that piety is the first duty of every Christian, priest, and religious. Apostolic work, however important, can never replace prayer, for prayer is the soul of the apostolate. Without a deep relationship with God, ministry loses its spiritual vitality and bears little fruit. He concluded by reminding the community that their mission is not merely a profession but a vocation—to be apostles who share with others the love and grace they have received from God.

The renewal of vows marked the culmination of the Juniors’ spiritual preparation during their annual retreat held from May 24 to 29, 2026, at St. Scholastica’s Center of Spirituality in Tagaytay City. The retreat was facilitated by Sr. M. Leticia Bantolinao, PDDM.
