Amidst North Sydney’s morning drizzle, SSP members of the Sydney, Australia community attended the book launch of its latest published title, Hope: Unfinished Business — A Collection of Reflections from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women, on May 28, 2026, at Australian Catholic University (ACU).
Inspired by Pope Francis’ Jubilee Year of Hope and sponsored by Australian Catholic University and Catholic Mission, the event gathered individuals either with Aboriginal roots or with connections to Catholic Mission. During the program, four of the book’s 11 authors were present and warmly responded to the host’s profoundly prepared questions. In the open forum, many interesting insights emerged. Worth noting were the authors’ longing for their ethnic identity to be accepted and respected by the greater Australian society, as well as the audience’s expressions of gratitude and recognition for their valuable work.
After the event, with copies available sold out, as a gesture of thanksgiving, the members decided to drop by and pray at the tomb of Australia’s first saint, St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop, foundress of the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Sacred Heart.
