Celebrating Hope: The 56th Commencement of Saint Paul Seminary Foundation

A Joyful Gathering for New Beginnings


The Saint Paul Seminary Foundation joyfully celebrated its 56th Commencement Exercises for the Academic Year 2024–2025 on April 26, 2025. The event took place at the Tanghalang Timoteo Giaccardo Auditorium. Fourteen students completed their formation, achieving significant milestones in their educational pursuits. Among them, eleven earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication, three earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, and one received a Certificate of Philosophical Studies.


Baccalaureate Mass: A Spiritual Start


The day began with a Baccalaureate Mass at the Conversion of Saint Paul Chapel. The Mass was presided over by Fr. Norman Melchor Peña, Jr., SSP, PhD, with Fr. Jose Aripio, SSP, serving as the homilist. Fr. Aripio reflected on the trials and triumphs of life, urging graduates to persevere in hope. His message resonated deeply with attendees, reminding them of the importance of faith during challenging times.


After the Mass, graduates proudly received their sablay and blessed medals, symbolic of their hard work and commitment. This meaningful ceremony set a tone of gratitude and celebration.


Graduation Ceremony: Sharing the Gifts of Hope


The graduation ceremony, themed "Sharing Gifts of Hope for a Better World," opened with a heartfelt message from Fr. Peña. He spoke about the challenges faced by the seminary community while affirming its mission to form men and women after Jesus the Master. The message focused on resilience and the importance of hope in pursuing a better world.


The degrees were conferred by Rev. Fr. Mario Subrejuanite, SSP. This moment marked a significant achievement for the graduates, symbolizing the culmination of their dedication and commitment to their studies.


Commencement Speaker: Inspiring Future Leaders


Commencement speaker Prof. Ben Carlo Atim, an SPSF alumnus and current head of the faculty, shared encouraging words with the graduates. He urged them to be quiet bearers of hope through their presence and service in the world. His powerful speech underscored the importance of compassion and community service in today’s society.


Academic awards were also presented during the ceremony, celebrating exceptional accomplishments. Notable recipients included:

  • Mr. Velly John Tinco (Most Promising Thesis – Philosophy)

  • Seminarian Ryan Pinzon (Best Thesis – Philosophy)

  • Sister Judith Ma, FSP (Best Thesis Presenter – Communication)

  • Seminarian Kilven Lorezo (Most Promising Thesis – Communication)

  • Seminarian Richmon Rey Jundis (Best Thesis – Communication)


Recognizing Academic Excellence


Four graduates were honored with Latin honors for their outstanding academic performance. The honored graduates included:

  • Seminarian Kilven Lorezo

  • Sister Judith Ma

  • Sister Laurin Kowal

  • Sister Aemy Soo (cum laude)

  • Seminarian Richmon Rey Jundis (magna cum laude), who also received the prestigious Timoteo Giaccardo Award.


In his valedictory address, Seminarian Jundis spoke eloquently about the journey ahead. He emphasized moving forward through faith and community and transforming brokenness into hope. His words inspired not just his peers but everyone present.


A Celebration of Community and Gratitude


The ceremony concluded with a heartfelt loyalty pledge and the induction of alumni. A song tribute was performed in honor of mentors and families, celebrating their support and guidance throughout the graduates' journeys. After the formal proceedings, everyone gathered for a celebratory lunch, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the graduates.


The Mission Ahead: Carrying the Light of Hope


The 56th Commencement marked not only an end but also a renewed mission: to carry the light of hope into the world. Graduates learned that their education was not merely about acquiring knowledge but about making meaningful contributions to society.
